MALT
This winter has been exceptionally cold and has caused problems in getting our barley to germinate. The water has been around freezing when steeping and therefore the moisture content of the barley hasn't reached the levels we would like. This in turn has meant germination has been slowed down and has affected our yields during production . We are investing in a system to pre heat the steep water next winter so we don't encounter these problems in the future.

CASKS
We recently purchased a container of refil bourbon barrels from Cooley Distillery, Northern Ireland. These provide light fruity notes to our smoky, peaty and sweet new spirit. We are looking forward to seeing the results of the marriage ina few years time.

Our third Release is now available.
Matured for three years in a combination of fresh and refill barrels and then finished for three and a half months in active Oloroso sherry butts. Added to the vatting were four refill Bourbon barrels. This is the first release for which we have used our own spring water to reduce the whisky to 46% alcohol strength, this water comes from Octofad Farm, on the Rhinns of Islay.
The whisky was vatted and reduced to bottling strength at Bruichladdich Distillery and then shipped in 1000 litre transit tanks to Houston Bottling Co for bottling.
This Release is similar in style to the other two Releases but each has a subtle difference which is noticable if all three are tasted along side each other.
Our distributor in Spain, Central Hisumer, took a stand at this years fair in Barcelona.
The 5 day fair was very busy and a lot of interest was shown in Kilchoman.
